Some chemotherapy treatments can cause the skin to become dry, cracked and peeling, especially on the hands and feet.

 

Dry and cracked skin can leave you more prone to infections because the skin barrier is broken. Bacteria and other germs can get inside the skin and cause an infection which can be especially problematic if the immune system is already low from chemotherapy treatment.

 

Restorate Revive Extra Strength Foot and Heel Balm contains 30% urea which is well-known for its hydrating, exfoliating and protecting properties. According to 'Topical urea in skincare: A review', topical creams containing lower doses of urea (less than 10%) act as a skin moisturiser, while creams containing higher concentrations of urea (more than 10%) exert a keratolytic or exfoliating action.

 

There is also evidence to show that utilising an emollient or moisturising cream containing urea can help to relieve the side effects of Hand-Foot Syndrome (HFS) or Palmer-Plantar Erythrodysaesthesia (PPS).
