Once a scar has fully healed, gentle massage can help keep the scar and the skin around it soft, supple and comfortable. Many scars feel tight, dry or itchy as they mature, and regular moisturising massage can help ease this. Tamanu’s rich texture holds moisture against the skin, making it a popular choice for scar massage.

• Only on fully healed skin: Use only once the skin has completely closed and healed, with no scabs, stitches, open areas or weeping. Your care team can tell you when it’s safe to start.
• How to massage: Warm 2 to 3 drops between your fingertips. Using gentle pressure, massage in small slow circles over the scar and the skin around it for a few minutes, once or twice a day.
• Be gentle: The massage should feel comfortable. Stop if it hurts, or if the skin becomes red or irritated.
• Little and often: Scars change slowly, so regular gentle care over weeks and months suits better than occasional heavy massage.
• Lighter feel: Tamanu is thick, so if you’d like it to spread more easily, blend a few drops with a lighter oil such as Sweet Almond Oil.
• Keep it covered up: Scars can be more sensitive to sun, so protect healed scars from strong sunlight.

Types of scars it’s suited to

Once healed, Tamanu Oil can be used for gentle massage on scars from surgery, from ports and cannulas, from biopsies and from other procedures. If you’ve had radiotherapy, please check with your care team before using it on the treated area,

Beyond scars, Tamanu’s rich texture suits very dry, rough or tight skin.

• Dry patches: Dab a little onto rough elbows, knees, heels and other dry areas.
• Massage: A few drops can be used as a rich massage oil, either alone or blended with a lighter oil.
• Overnight care: Apply to dry hands or feet, then wear Cotton Moisturising Gloves or Cotton Moisturising Socks to lock in moisture.

A little goes a long way. Start with 2 to 3 drops, warm them between your fingertips and massage in. Always patch test first by applying a small amount to your inner forearm and waiting 24 hours.
